Mr. P V N Rao, is a Chemical Engineering graduate from NIT Warangal and did his Post graduation in Petroleum Refining engineering from Andhra University, Waltair. He also did Post Graduation Diploma in Business Administration from Annamalai University. After working in Andhra Pradesh Paper Mills, Rajuhmundry for one year as Graduate Engineer Trainee, he joined ONGC in 1980 and retired after 34 years of rich experience in both Upstream and Downstream of oil industry in various capacities.
He worked in Water Injection plant for pressure maintenance of Ankleshwar Oil field in Gujarat for 2 years, in GGS of Lakwa field in Upper Assam for 6 years, in Work-over operations of KG basin for 10 years, as In-charge of GCS Tatipaka in KG basin for one year, as In-charge of India's first skid mounted well head refinery at Tatipaka for 5 years, worked in gas processing plant at Hazira for 3 years, in oil & gas processing plant at Uran for 5 years and finally worked in KG offshore deep water project for 2 years.
He is specialized in servicing of High Pressure and High temperature oil & gas wells of Krishna Godavari Basin and was associated with control of one the biggest gas well blow-out at Pasarlapudi. He was involved with the activity of acquisition of MRPL by ONGC. He undertook concept to commissioning, the country’s first skid mounted refinery at Tatipaka. He is also associated with start of gas production from ONGC’s first deep water well in G-1 offshore field off the coast of Amalapuram. Presently he is working as Programme Director for Petroleum courses in Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University at Kakinada. He is a keen golfer.

Prof. Rao has a rich experience especially in phase equilibrium thermodynamics and published over 150 research papers in national and international journals. He successfully guided three candidates for their Ph. D., about 50 P. G. students for their M. Tech. and several scores of B. Tech. students for their undergraduate projects. He widely travelled in USA, Canada, Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong. He visited several Foreign Universities and a visiting professor at the Technical University, West Berlin in 1980. A Special Presentation has been made to the Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas on “Strategy for Development of Alternate Resources of Oil and Gas with Reference to Biodiesels” on December 12, 2006.
Prof. K. V. Rao is the programme director for petroleum engineering and petrochemical engineering courses. He served Andhra University at various levels till he attained superannuation in 2005. Later, he worked in the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehra Dun as a Distinguished Professor until July 2010. In his academic career, he taught most of the Chemical Engineering as well as several core subjects in petroleum and natural gas engineering. He is an expert in feasibility studies for petroleum, petrochemical and chemical process plants, safety & energy audits as well as HAZOP and risk assessment studies.
